Horse Riding Instruction
Raygill Riding Centre is a family owned business. The Wall family came to the farm in 1898. Generations of breeding ponies and managing the farm has evolved commendable expertise in the schooling, maintenance and riding of horses. The Wall family and their staff are totally hands-on. Thus pride themselves not only on their knowledge and experience, but on the friendly and approachable way this is dispensed to their customers. Advice and coaching is in constant supply in a safe learning environment to all visitors, from aspiring professionals to those partaking in horse riding as an occasional outdoor pursuit.
The facilities at Raygill Riding Centre are outstanding. There is an all weather outdoor arena, show jumping paddock and a cross country course.
The Lessons
Many children and adults have learnt to ride successfully and safely at Raygill Riding Centre over the years. All lessons are carried out by qualified, experienced instructors and are aimed at genuine improvement at all levels for both children and adults.Tuition takes the form of ground exercise and mounted work. Each rider is helped to develop technique, posture and enhance communication and cooperation with their horse.
Children start lead rein lessons from about 3 years old. From 5 years they can take 1/2 hour private lessons increasing to 1/2 hour lesson plus 1/2 hour ride around the farm and eventually progressing to 1 hour lessons including jumping and cross country.
Adult beginners will find half an hour private or semi-private lessons are usually enough. Our very quiet, well schooled ponies and small horses will help you improve quickly. Having learnt the basics you might want to hack, trek or learn to jump. Raygill offer the very popular Combination Rides consisting of 1/2 hour's lesson before a hack or trek, highly recommended for novice or first time riders.
For the more experienced, teaching can be aimed at BHS exams or improving dressage, show jumping and cross country on our horses or on your own.
Jumping
Raygill Riding Centre is an ideal place to build confidence in jumping. The agile and well-trained Raygill Dales Ponies handle the obstacles boldly. To facilitate all levels and personal objectives in jumping, Raygill can put together the perfect course to meet varying needs.Dressage
Dressage lessons are aimed at developing balance, rhythm, and feel within the movement of the horse. Dressage has a great aesthetic appeal and the use of a lunge-line allows the rider to foster the ability to follow the movement of the horse without inhibiting it.
